Crow Fire reaches 125 acres

Wood County — The Crow Fire in Wood County was reported 100% contained Monday night, Aug. 31, after burning an estimated 125 acres near U.S. Highway 80 and Farm to Market Road 778.

The fire was reported Monday afternoon in rural Wood County, in the area between Mineola and Hawkins. It grew from an early estimate of about 30 acres as multiple state and local agencies responded. Officials closed multiple roads in the area.

With the fire growing quickly, Wood County sheriff's deputies notified an estimated 20 to 30 residents along County Roads 2680 and 2686 that evacuations could become necessary as the fire neared structures.

The Texas A&M Forest Service ultimately listed the fire as 100% contained.

Wood County remains under a burn ban that took effect Aug. 18 amid dry conditions and elevated wildfire risk. The cause of the fire had not been determined.
