June 05, 2025
Tyler—The University of Texas at Tyler School of Nursing achieved a 96 percent pass rate on the nursing licensure exam for 2024, ranking above the national average of 91.16 percent and the state average of 92.76 percent.
Nursing graduates are required to pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, or the NCLEX-RN, to become a registered nurse in the United States. The NCLEX assesses physiological integrity, psychosocial integrity, health promotion and maintenance, and safe and effective care environment.
“A 96 percent pass rate means our graduates are entering the field ready to make a difference,” Dr. Barbara K. Haas, School of Nursing dean, said. “We’re proud to help launch nurses who are confident, competent and compassionate.”
In addition to achieving outstanding NCLEX results, the School of Nursing achieved a 96 percent first time pass rate on the Family Nurse Practitioner Exam and a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification exam for 2024, ranking above the national average of 83 percent for both exams.
Family Nurse Practitioners and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses who can assess, diagnose and treat patients. Family Nurse Practitioners treat patients across the lifespan, often serving as primary care providers. Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners treat individuals with psychiatric disorders, providing therapy, prescribing medications and developing comprehensive mental health care plans.
