UT Tyler announces honor scholars

Tyler—The University of Texas at Tyler recently recognized nine high school seniors as 2025 Honors Scholars. Each student was awarded a $40,000 scholarship and accepted into the UT Tyler Honors College.
“This recognition is not only for their academic excellence, but also for their dedication, perseverance and passion for learning,” said UT Tyler president Julie V. Philley, MD. “It took a lot of hard work to get to this achievement, and we are extremely proud to welcome them to UT Tyler.”
The students were selected from nearly 900 applicants who submitted essays and were interviewed. They were notified of the scholarships this week during surprise visits to their high school campuses as part of the university’s Admissions Honors Scholars Road Show.
Recipients listed by high school are:
Martin’s Mill High School – Reese Hataway and Anna Zimmerman.
Tyler Legacy High School – Alexandra Hammel.
UT Tyler University Academy-Tyler – Hassan Danish, Sofia Garcia and Melissa Hilbig.
Van High School – Sean Dangerfield.
Whitehouse High School – Christopher Carlile and JJ Idrogo.
